What is Vidyarambham?
Vijayadasami (also written Vijayadashami) comes right after the nine nights of Navaratri and is seen as the most auspicious day to begin learning. Families sit the child down with an elder or teacher, who guides a small finger to write the first letter in a plate of rice.
In Kerala this is called Vidyarambham or Ezhuthiniruthu, in Karnataka Aksharabhyasa, in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Aksharabhyasam, in Tamil Nadu Vidyarambham, and in Hindi-speaking homes Vidyarambh. This app recreates the rice plate on your phone so your child can trace the letter and you can keep the moment as a card.
How it works
- Choose a language and type your child's name.
- Your child traces the letter on the rice plate with a finger. The rice parts to show the brass underneath.
- Get the card with the traced letter, a Vijayadasami greeting and a blessing, then share it on WhatsApp or download it.

Is it free?
Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up and no app to install. It works in the browser on any phone.
Is my child's name or drawing uploaded anywhere?
No. The card is made on your phone and only leaves it when you share it. We only count anonymous visits to see how many families use the app.
Which letters can my child write?
Tamil: அ, ஆ, ஓம் · Malayalam: അ, ഹരിശ്രീ · Kannada: ಅ, ಓಂ · Telugu: అ, ఓం · Hindi: अ, ॐ, श्री.
Can I make cards for more than one child?
Yes. After the card is ready, tap “Make one for another child” and enter the next name.
How do I save the card on iPhone?
Tap Share and choose Save Image, or press and hold the card and choose Save to Photos.
